LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville police say a shooting at a condominium complex was carried out by a man who fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and their 8-year-old daughter, wounded his mother during a struggle and then killed himself.
Police Lt. Todd Kessinger described what happened Thursday at a news conference, saying the motive for the shootings a day earlier was domestic-related.
Deputy coroner Rita Taylor identified the two victims as 36-year-old Jillian Wood and her 8-year-old daughter, Shelby Stewart. She says both died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Deputy coroner R.D. Jones identified the suspect as 40-year-old Gary Stewart. Jones says he died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
Kessinger says the former couple's 12-year-old son and the uncle of the suspect fled the condo during the shooting Wednesday afternoon.
Kessinger says an argument broke out in the uncle's apartment before Stewart opened fire.
