FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) -- Cheers greeted 170 soldiers who have returned home to Fort Campbell after spending 9 months in Afghanistan.

The Kentucky New Era reports nothing dampened the enthusiasm of the crowd in the hanger on post as they waited Monday morning for loved ones to step off a plane.

The soldiers are members of the "Wings of Destiny" Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division. The unit is part of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade.

Its mission was to assist and protect ground troops with air support and air elements as needed.
