The funeral of former Monroe County Police Chief Herbert Proffitt has been postponed.
Proffitt, also known as Sprocket, was in law enforcement over 50 years serving as both Tompkinsville Police Chief and Monroe County Sheriff.
The funeral was originally planned for tomorrow but according to Strode Funeral Home visitation and services have been postponed due to an illness affecting Proffitt's wife, Bernice.
Police say 81-year-old Charles Hammer shot Proffitt in front of his home Tuesday afternoon.
Hammer was later arrested.
