The fate of the city golf courses are being discussed Tuesday afternoon.

"Where we can cut, save, redirect re purpose, to save taxpayers money and still provide a reasonable golf service," says Bowling Green Mayor, Bruce Wilkerson.

This happening after the Riverview at Hobson Grove Golf Course reported a significantly lower number of rounds played in the last decade.

"Basically finances, the city spends a considerable amount of money in supporting the golf recreation enterprise," says Mayor Wilkerson ",and some may think it's an inordinate amount of money."

The most recent proposal, is turning them over to private management.

Businessman Greg Gary, has been interested in leasing the Paul Walker Golf Course since July.

"He made a proposal to lease Covington Woods (also known as Paul Walker) Golf Course, and since that time there's been some discussion and staff has been reviewing that material. We ended up going ahead to consider the lease."

Mayor Wilkerson says the courses were at the top of Tuesday's agenda as they review Gary's proposal.

"He would have control of the property for the ten year term of the lease. He'd be responsible for all the up keep and maintenance, but also the operation of the course as well."

And the option of closing one of the courses is still on the table.

"Based on the discussion from last time there may be some discussion on if it's worth it to still hold services at Hobson Grove," says the mayor.

"Hopefully we can come to a conclusion quickly both for the sake of Mr.Gary who has been waiting since July for some kind of response and for the employees."
