Gas Station Sales Spike with Holiday Traffic

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Many people throughout South Central Kentucky are spending this Labor Day on the road, traveling home for their weekend get-a-ways.

Today, gas stations throughout Bowling Green saw a spike in traffic and sales as people passed through. One customer says he and his family are headed home to Newburgh, IN., from their stay at Lake Cumberland State Park. He says he was pleased to see the lower-than-expected gas prices in the area.

"This is definitely the lowest I've seen it from Indiana, all the way to eastern Kentucky. It was about $3.40 over in eastern Kentucky, so, pulling in here I saw $3.13, and we were really happy about that. We're saving a little bit of money," Doug Roberts, said.

AAA reports the current average for a regular gallon of gasoline sits at about $3.43.
