A vacant house is destroyed by a fire in Glasgow, and two more homes are now unlivable on Hillcrest Street.

Families are forced to stay the night in hotels while officials investigate the cause.

Thursday, those families were checking out just how much damage was done.

"It's devastating, we weren't sure to what extent the damage was," says David Basil as he checks on his home.

All that's left of a vacant house is charred rubble and investigators aren't ruling out arson just yet.

Glasgow Fire Chief, Tony Atwood says there have been three other abandoned houses burned, that could have been arson,"especially without us knowing exactly what caused the fire, arson is probably not out of the question, but that would really be just speculation."

It happened around 4 in the afternoon yesterday, it started in a vacant house with no electricity, then spread to the two homes on both sides.

Atwood says a neighbor saw the flames and thankfully got everyone out in time.

"We have animals so we were in a panic to get the animals out," says Basil,"and two more people live here so everyone got out safe."

Firefighters spent three hours putting out the blaze, and for one, the heat was too much.

"About an hour and a half in we had one of our firefighters go down, yesterday the temperature was like 99 degrees," Atwood says the firefighter went to the hospital, but was okay.

At about the same time, a car caught fire in the Walmart parking lot, spreading to three other cars around it.

"We had all hands on deck at this fire, we had to actually break a crew from here," says Atwood.

Neighbors say this house was being used for storage.

"I haven't seen anyone come out of that house," says Basil, "now if someone would set it on fire, I don't know."

Investigators hope to find the cause of the fire, however they say because of the damage done it may not be possible.
