Glasgow Police Officer Escapes Serious Injury In Overturned Vehicle Crash

The cruiser slid uncontrollably, struck an embankment and then flipped over landing on its roof.

GLASGOW, Ky (WBKO) -- Glasgow Police Officer Justin Kirkpatrick was en-route in his city issued cruiser to begin his shift at 5:50 this morning, Friday, January 17, 2014, when he drove across a patch of black ice.

The cruiser slid uncontrollably, struck an embankment and then flipped over landing on its roof.

Officer Kirkpatrick was able to call dispatch to report the accident but was trapped and unable to exit his cruiser.

Upon arrival of the Glasgow Fire Department, the Jaws of Life were used to free him from the vehicle and he was then transported to TJ Samson by Barren/Metcalfe EMS where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Kentucky State Police were called to the scene, as is standard procedure, and they are conducting the investigation.

Chief Turcotte says he’s thankful Officer Kirkpatrick’s injuries are minor and the accident wasn’t worse.

He also thanks those who stopped to offer assistance to Officer Kirkpatrick prior to our department and other emergency services arrival.
