A single vehicle crash on Tompkinsville Road just before 10:00 Friday night, May 4, claimed the life of a Glasgow man and critically injured a woman causing her to be air-lifted from the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates the accident happened when a 2005 Chevy pickup, traveling westbound, went out of control and struck the headwall of a road tile, before going over an embankment and through a ditch striking a fence and overturning.

The two occupants, identified as 58-year-old Freddy E. Belcher and 60-year-old Betty R. Belcher both of Glasgow, were both ejected.

Freddy Belcher was pronounced dead at the scene by Barren County Coroner Mike Swift.

Betty Belcher suffered severe injuries and was taken from the scene by Air-Evac to Vanderbilt Medical Center in TN., where at last word Monday morning, she remains in critical but stable condition.

Deputies Adam Bow, Rodney Sponhouse and Kevin Wilson investigated the initial scene.

Re-constructionists with the sheriff’s office continue the investigation.

Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Services and members of the Temple Hill Volunteer Fire Department were first responders at the scene.
