BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- The United Way of Southern Kentucky and the Goober 95.1 WGGC teamed up to help area children today.

They were raising money for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. The program mails one book every month from birth to 5 years old, free of charge in Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, and Warren counties.

Listeners called in their pledges and it only costs $30 to sponsor one child.

"It's been wonderful to have our listeners call in and be a part of it and to get them involved and let them do something good for the community too," said Kelly Austin with the Goober 95.1 WGGC.

"It's my kid and it's their kids and the relatable part of this job is the most fun and the most rewarding too," said Greg Almond with the Goober 95.1 WGGC.

The goal was to sponsor 1,000 children.
