FRANKFORT, Ky. (WBKO) -- Gov. Steve Beshear, D-Kentucky officially signed the bill Monday that bans the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors.
Beshear called this common sense legislation that promotes health and safety.
The house and senate passed this bill earlier this legislative session.
Beshear was worried the similarity to cigarettes could leader to bigger problems in society for future generations.
"Because they closely mimic tobacco based cigarettes in form and function, e-cigarettes increase what's called re-normalization of smoking among youth. In other words, they simply train our youth to smoke and make it seem ok," said Beshear.
While Beshear said he's glad for this new law, he also wished state lawmakers would have passed a statewide smoking ban this session.
