Governor Announces New Jobs in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- The Austrian based company ALPLA is setting up shop in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

It's a $22.4 million dollar investment in the area.

"That says more than words can say about the confidence that the ALPLA folks feel in Bowling Green, Warren County, the Commonwealth of Kentucky and in this region's workforce," said Gov. Steve Beshear D-Kentucky.

The governor seems to have been in south central Kentucky quite a bit lately announcing new jobs.

"A number that's even better than the 22.4 million dollar investment is they are creating 72 more full time jobs for Kentuckians right here in Bowling Green and Warren County," said Gov. Beshear.

ALPLA is a plastic packaging company that has been around for a while. They make products for a number of industries creating items you'd likely find in your house.

"During those 60 years, they have developed a packaging for almost everything in your house. If you look under the cabinet, you see products that came from one of ALPLA's manufacturing facilities," said Warren County Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon.

ALPLA says they've just begun and are ready to go.

"This is a very nice operation. We started up in July, August. Now, the first set-up of machines are running. We are still in the phase of ramping up," said Guenther Lehner, CEO of ALPLA Inc.

The building was only on the market for a year before business jumped in it.

The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce says this is one of four economic announcements this year.

Our area has seen a total investment of more than $200 million and the creation of nearly 350 jobs.
