RICHARDSVILLE, Ky (WBKO) -- Shovels dug deep in Richardsville today, as the community celebrates a new Richardsville Fire Department.
The owners of Jackson's Orchard, Bill and Shirley Jackson, are generously building the new station on a piece of their own personal property and leasing it to the county government.
The new structure will be at the corner of Slim Island Road and Eversole Drive, next to the Jackson's Orchard “entrance" sign, located off of Richardsville Road.
Since becoming Chief, officials say Fire Chief Bryan Lee has made it a priority to expand the stations and cover more of the district.
"Over the last six years, with strict budgeting, help from our county government, with the generous partnership with Bill Jackson, by the end of this year we are going to have six stations to cover our district," said Deputy Chief Joe Harbin, Richardsville Fire Department.
"We're doing that primarily because the people in a five mile radius, in the five mile corner, will save $100,000-$150,000 a year on their fire insurance. We're trying to be a good neighbor, and give back to our community," said Bill Jackson, Owner of Jackson's Orchard.
Scott, Murphy and Daniel began construction this afternoon and the new fire station is expected to open in a few months.
