Groups Argue Over Future of Pulaski Co. Library

Pulaski County residents are debating over whether to dissolve their library board due to tax increases that have been enacted over the last two years.

Library board attorney Bruce Orwin told the Commonwealth Journal that the move would shut down the library, but those who favor a petition calling for the dissolution of the board say that's not the case.

Barb Sanders called it "doomsday" prophecy and said her citizens' group wants to re-establish a board under the purview of the Pulaski Fiscal Court.

However, Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives said in a letter that if the district is dissolved, the library would close, employees would be terminated and the building, books, furniture and equipment would be subject to sale in order to pay off debt.
