Hometown Hero: Girl Scout Troop #223

Updated: Fri 9:53 PM, Jun 15, 2012

A Girl Scout Troop in Edmonson County has found a special cause in giving to the Barren River Area Safe Space.

Troop #223 spent weeks collecting food to give to give to BRASS after learning about bullying and domestic violence.

Fontayne Bryant, Child Advocate for BRASS, says, "The donation will help many of the women who come to the shelter that need food to take with them once they leave the shelter."

The troop leader, who is a domestic abuse survivor, says that it is important to teach young children about these topics so that they can grow up prepared to protect themselves in the future.

"I think it's really important when they are this age to teach them what to look out for."

The donations will feed women who come to BRASS for help, as well as other women in the area who need some assistance.

Teaching these young girls can help end a cycle of violence, and begin a cycle of love.

"It's very important that we teach our youth because they are our future leaders of tomorrow," says Bryant.

For their donation to BRASS, we honor Girl Scout Troop #223 as Hometown Heroes.
