FORT CAMPBELL, KY. (AP) -- Dozens of veterans from the Vietnam era are at Fort Campbell to commemorate the 43rd anniversary of the Battle of Hamburger Hill.
The battle happened in May 1969 and involved the 3rd Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division. After one of the bloodiest battles of the Vietnam War, U.S. and South Vietnamese forces captured the mountain that the Americans referred to as "Hamburger Hill."
A memorial ceremony and medal presentation will take place Wednesday. It will include a parachute jump by the 101st Airborne Division Parachute Demonstration Team and presentation of Presidential Unit Citation medals by the team as well as a certificate presentation to the assembled veterans.
