Updated: Wed 9:46 PM, Sep 19, 2012

Police say in new information released Wednesday, the man who robbed Hancock Bank & Trust Tuesday was armed with a gun.

Police released surveillance footage from the robbery that happened at 2:41 p.m..

Police say the man had a long ponytail, and was wearing black and white Reebox sneakers.

This is the fourth bank robbery in Bowling Green in three months.

And now, Bowling Green banks are working together to prevent the robberies from continuing.

"We've actually created, with the assistance of the Bowling Green Police Dept., an email system, a notification system, a contact system. I know personally within the last thirty days there have been a couple of instances with our bank, from a fraud standpoint, where we've actually had folks apprehended on sight as a result of that communication between banks," U.S. Bank Regional President Craig Browning said.

Browning says several banks in the area are also updating their security due to recent events.

Law enforcement officials are hoping you can help solve these cases.

"We just ask the bank employees here locally to be extra vigilant during this time, be aware of their surroundings and if someone comes into the bank that they don't recognize as a regular customer, who seems suspicious, they need to notify authorities," Bowling Green FBI Supervisory Special Agent James Hendricks says.

"In any crime that's committed, the public always plays a big part in that. Whether it's helping recognize the person that's involved, or seeing the crime while it's taking place, and they're able to contact us as quickly as possible," Bowling Green Police Public Information Officer Ronnie Ward says.

Bowling Green isn't the only place seeing a number of bank robberies.

"In the Henderson area, here lately in the past several months, we've seen an upward trend in robberies," Agent Hendricks says.

Hendricks believes the economy is a major factor to blame.

Police want you to know this isn't something they take lightly.

"This is something that we work on, and we work on daily and relentlessly, until we can get the crime solved. We just want to put it out to the folks that we don't forget about it. We do work on these things and we do take it very seriously," Officer Ward says.
