The Fountain Square downtown merchants and the City of Bowling Green are hosting "Historic Downtown Lights Up" tonight.

This annual event presents the downtown Christmas decorations to the community.

The event started at 5:30.

Mayor Mike Wilkerson kicked of the ceremonial lighting of the park.

Kids have an opportunity to see Santa.

And you have a chance to browse the Fountain Square Shops.

"It brings lot of people downtown. Some of whom may not have been here since last year. And may not have seen some of the new shops," "Downtown Lights Up" organizer, Michael Barron says.

"The 'Historic Downtown Lights Up' event is something that has been going on for years. And it's just a great way to pull people together and you know get everybody in the holiday spirit, and light up our downtown square," City of Bowling Green Public Information Officer, Kim Lancaster says.

The "Downtown Lights Up" event is free.

Santa will be sitting under the Capitol Arts Theatre Marquee.

Complimentary refreshments are being served in the Fountain Square retail stores.
