Holiday Bash Another Success

The season of giving was in full swing Friday night with Holiday Bash 2012. A sold out crowd placed their bids all to benefit 17 local charities. Event organizers say they were blown away by this years generosity.

"The 500 attendees that were here were 500 of the best attendees I've ever seen in a room. They were all so passionate. They raised their bid cards, we sold the Ronnie Dunn dinner for $24,000," says Coordinator Paula Kirby.

And the bidding continued. A wheelchair donated to the Center for Courageous Kids went for $25,000. A second generous donor also matched that. The chair was presented by SGT. Bryan Anderson, an Iraq war veteran who is a triple amputee and the guest of honor for CCK.

"He would tell you that even though what happened to him was a terrible tragedy it has presented him with opportunities that would not be possible any other way," says Executive Director Roger Murtie.

Murtie says the bidding war for the donated wheelchair was a pleasant surprise.

"When his auction item, the American Hero Package, came up of course we were hoping that Bryan would be honored by the amount that gift would bring, but even he was shocked as well as us," says Murtie.

Plenty of other items up for auction raised thousands for the 16 other Holiday Bash charities. The success this year was all possible thanks to South Central Kentucky.

"The charities work so hard and they're so wonderful but the people that actually come and sit in the room and attend the event they are the best," says Paula Kirby.

As the numbers continue to add up an official total will be announced by Holiday Bash at a later date.
