How to Live a Healthy Lifestyle in 2013

It's 2013!

Time to renew your new years resolutions does yours include exercising more, loosing weight, or just living a healthier lifestyle?

Here's some quick and easy exercises that will help you stay in shape and also some tips that may change how you eat.

A new year with new promises and one of those promises might be to get back in the gym.

"Do strength training number 1, and get off the couch. You got to go for a walk do a little bit of cardio, but strength training is the most important you burn more calories throughout the day if you lift weights,"says Tina Burrell, Fintness Trainer.

But if you don't always have time to make it to the gym here are some quick and easy moves.

"Hip Bridges, she's going to lay on the floor her feet are flat on the floor, knees are bent, shoulders are against the floor. She's just going to raise her hips,"says Burrell.

Next for your abs, stability ball crunches.

"Plank position your hands are on the ground, your on the ball and your body is elevated. You do not want to have a dip in your lower back you have to tighten your abs,"says Burrell.

Now add the weights for a stability ball dumbbell bench press.

"Your in a hip extension with your shoulders on the stability ball. All of your muscles are firing to keep you on the ball. Arms are out to the side and your going to be doing a press,"says Burrell.

While exercising is 20%, eating healthy is the other 80.

"Weight loss really is about calories and no matter where the calories come from whether it's healthy or unhealthy food it really is just the calories,"says Linda Howsen, Dietitian at the Health and Wellness Center.

While it varies the average person should consume no more than 2,000 calories a day.

"One way to find out portion size is to look at a food label,"says Howsen.

Don't worry you can still eat the foods you enjoy.

"Measure your plate 9" plate is the size plate we really want people to be eating off of and if you do that the food that you put on there looks much larger. Eating 2 cookies never made someone unhealthy and overweight but eating a box a day does,"says Howsen.

Howser says you should avoid diets that cuts out a food group, such as the high protein low carb diet, and cut out sugar drinks such as soda.
