JELLICO, Tenn. (AP) -- The main detour for the partially closed Interstate 75 has reopened after shutting down Wednesday morning after a tractor-trailer rig careened down a foggy patch of a mountain road in Campbell County.
Tennessee Highway Patrol officials said the driver of the rig was killed when the truck overturned and tumbled down a bluff on U.S. Highway 25W. The victim has yet to be identified.
The Knoxville News Sentinel http://bit.ly/KsUArm is reporting that officials have decided to leave the overturned rig at the scene so they could recover the truck at a time when it would not disrupt traffic patterns.
The southbound lanes of I-75 near the Tennessee-Kentucky line have been closed due to construction, and Highway 25W served as the main detour for traffic.
THP officials were forced to divert all southbound traffic to State Route 297 for five hours while 25W was closed.
