BARREN COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) -- Some of you may be spending 4th of July at home, but many are out at Barren River Lake State Park.
"Swim a little bit, clean on the boat, ride on the boat," said Michael Durbin, who was celebrating on his boat at the lake.
Others decided to watch boaters as they had a picnic.
"We just come to have memories, because it's a beautiful place," said Rachel Burnette.
Others were waiting for fireworks.
"Everybody comes to see the fireworks and the colors of it and making the sounds," said Chris Quintanilla, from Texas.
It's a day everyone is happy to be out of the office, and enjoying time outside with friends and family.
"We came here for a little vacation right here," Quintanilla.
But they aren't celebrating without remembering the true meaning of the 4th of July.
"I have a very dear brother in law who gave his life for us to have a good 4th, so we definitely remember the 4th of July," Burnette said.
"I have a lot of friends that serve the country well, and I appreciate them all," Durbin said.
They realize no matter the political differences people may have, it's a time to be thankful for freedom everyone has in America.
"The only time that we all focus as a country and really acknowledge what it means to be an American, and it's something to be celebrated," said Jen Montgomery, from Louisville.
The park had live music starting at 6:00 p.m. and fireworks are set to go off later in the evening.
