MAYSVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- An inmate who left his Mason County Detention Center work release job has been found and returned to jail.

The Ledger-Independent reported that 21-year-old Chad Major walked away from the Mason County Recycling Center just after noon Wednesday.

Mason County Sheriff Chief Deputy Chuck Fritz says Major was spotted around 2:30 p.m. Thursday in an east end residential area of Maysville

Fritz says he spotted Major walking along the street. Fritz says Major told him he had spent the night in the woods.

Fritz says Major gave no reason why he fled from the work detail.

Major was serving a sentence for second-degree burglary and violation of probation conditions.

Fritz says he will now be charged with second-degree escape.
