Kentucky Supreme Court justices zeroed in on whether a man was improperly excluded from fully testifying about his self-defense claims in the shooting deaths of two others in a drug deal gone wrong.
The high court heard oral arguments in the case on Thursday in Frankfort and focused on whether a trial judge improperly cut short the testimony of 32-year-old Carlos Lamont Ordway and let a police offer wrongly testify about how someone acting in self-defense would behave.
Ordway was sentenced to death in 2010 for the slayings of 21-year-old Patrick Lewis and 25-year-old Rodrieques Turner, both of Louisville, after an Aug. 11, 2007 gun fight and car crash in Lexington.
Ordway claimed the men threatened to kill him for drugs. Prosecutors say Ordway fired a gun into a car that had crashed.
