KY Mayor Resigns for Second Time in 3 Months

By AP |

CUMBERLAND, Ky. -- The mayor of an eastern Kentucky town has resigned for the second time in three months.

Cumberland Mayor Carl Hatfield stepped down Tuesday night while saying the city council's "hatred for me is destroying the city."

Hatfield resigned from the position about three months ago, but backtracked before the act became official.

Hatfield says he won't change his mind again.

Hatfield and the city council have been at odds over finances and the state of the city's drinking water.

Leaving now, Hatfield says, may give the city a chance to tackle the ongoing problems.
