FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky's Teacher of the Year will be named in a couple of weeks during a ceremony in Frankfort honoring 24 recipients of the Teacher Achievement Awards.

From those 24, a top teacher will be chosen for elementary, middle and high schools, and the Teacher of the Year will come from that group. The Teacher of the Year will represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year competition.

The Kentucky Education Department and Ashland Inc. chose the 24 outstanding educators, and Ashland will present them with cash awards and certificates at the awards ceremony on Oct. 16 in the Capitol.

Since 1988, some $685,000 has been awarded to 450 teachers of grades K to 12.

The 24 recipients are listed on the Education Department website at the link below.
