Kentucky Inmate Caught After 17 Days On The Run

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- A former Rockcastle County Detention Center inmate helped her cellmate escape from jail and avoid capture for 17 days, according to jail officials.

Law enforcement agencies across central Kentucky started searching for 32-year-old Ruby Coyle after she walked away from work release two and a half weeks ago.

We're told her former cellmate, 32-year-old Carrie Gross, picked her up in a car and took off.

Berea police say they found them at the McDonalds on Glades Road about 11:30 Saturday morning.

We're told the women gave officers incorrect Social Security numbers but then admitted who they were.

They were arrested and taken to the Madison County Detention Center.

State police say Gross was carrying electronics that she stole from someone in her family; she is facing burglary charges.

According to jail officials, Coyle was serving her sixth sentence at the detention center before she escaped. We're told she was serving five years on drug and burglary charges.

Jail officials say she escaped on May 22, 112 days into her sentence.

"Coyle was incarcerated for a pretty serious offense so I'm glad we could get her arrested and back in jail," said Sgt. Jake Reed.

Jail officials tell us Gross and Coyle were cellmates from January to May this year.
