Kentucky Kingdom Reopens After Being Closed 5 Years

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WBKO) -- It's been nearly five years since Louisville theme park, Kentucky Kingdom opened its gates.

That was until Saturday, when 3,000 guests lined the the ticket tolls waiting to be apart of the grand re-opening in the first hour. Some lined up five to six hours early so they would have the bragging rights of being some of the first in.

Owner Ed Hart spent more than $44 million renovating the park that last opened its gates in 2009. The 80,000 season ticket holders will be able to enjoy a new roller coaster this summer called "Lightning Run".

A tourism consultant said the park has the potential to bring $3 billion to the community during the next couple of decades.
