INDEPENDENCE, Ky. (AP) -- The mother of a former teacher and Cincinnati Ben-Gals cheerleader says she's supportive of her daughter's relationship with a one-time student if it lasts, saying "age matters more now than it would in five or 10 years."

Cheryl Armstrong Jones of Independence told The Kentucky Enquirer her daughter, 27-year-old Sarah Jones, is an "excellent teacher," but having a relationship with the teen "was her fault."

Sarah Jones pleaded guilty in October to having sex with her former student, while she was a teacher in northern Kentucky. Jones has said the relationship began when the boy was 17.

Cheryl Jones, a former middle school principal, pleaded guilty to attempted tampering with evidence. She admitted sending the teen a text message telling him to get rid of his phone.
