FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway says a former social worker has been sentenced to five years in prison for falsifying reports on child abuse and neglect.

A statement from Conway's office on Tuesday says Anderson Circuit Judge Charles sentenced 61-year-old Margaret Murphy, who pleaded guilty in May to nine felony counts. The statement said Murphy falsified documents in nine cases between April 2006 and October 2010 to make it appear that she had investigated claims of child abuse and neglect. At least three of the cases involved allegations of sexual abuse.

Conway called Murphy's actions "unconscionable" and said his office opposed a request from Murphy's attorney for probation, pushing instead for prison time.

Conway said the sentence imposed by the judge sends a message that such actions won't be tolerated.
