FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky State Police have charged a division director at the Kentucky Finance and Administration Cabinet with driving under the influence of drugs.
The Lexington Herald-Leader and The State Journal report 58-year-old Jerry T. Lunsford was pulled over Monday morning shortly after leaving work because he was ill. An arrest citation says Lunsford had slurred speech and swayed on his feet during field sobriety tests. The citation said Lunsford told police he had taken the painkiller oxycodone because he had broken his ribs that morning.
Finance and Administration Cabinet spokeswoman Cindy Lanham, confirmed Lunsford's position with the department but said she could not comment on personnel matters. She said Lunsford declined to comment.
Lunsford, who earns $75,000 annually, is scheduled to be arraigned on May 31.
