LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Triple-digit temperatures are expected to persist in Kentucky through the weekend, prompting an excessive heat warning.

The National Weather Service posted the warning for western Kentucky and up the Ohio River Valley to West Virginia through Saturday. South-central and eastern Kentucky are under a heat advisory.

Forecasters said building humidity will push heat indexes to about 105 degrees with air temperatures within a couple of degrees above 100.

As the new work week begins, temperatures will cool to near normal highs around 90 degrees.
