Labor Cabinet Works to Prevent Construction Falls

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky Labor Cabinet is joining a campaign to raise awareness about the hazards of accidental falls at construction sites.

Labor Secretary Larry Roberts says 46 percent of fatalities among Kentucky construction workers between 2007 and 2011 were the result of falls.

He says three Kentucky workers died last year due to falls.

The cabinet is spreading the message about safety guidelines that should be followed at construction sites to prevent accidents.

Roberts says the measures cover everything from appropriate use of ladders to hazards associated with aerial lifts, roofs and scaffolds.

The Labor Cabinet is partnering with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Labor Cabinet staff will distribute safety posters to construction industry associations and home improvement stores.
