GOLDEN POND, Ky. (AP) -- The Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area is canceling all camping and other programs scheduled for this weekend because of winter storm predictions.
The Turkey Bay off-highway vehicle area and trails closed Wednesday, and all facilities will be closed by 5 p.m. CST Thursday. All visitors will be asked to leave, including campers in backcountry areas.
Land Between The Lakes Area Supervisor Tina Tilley said in a news release that predictions of freezing rain, sleet and snow as well as hazardous road conditions made closing the safest decision.
Land Between The Lakes is a 170,000-acre recreation area on the Kentucky-Tennessee border between the Cumberland and Tennessee rivers.
