FRANKFORT, Ky. (WBKO) -- Western Kentucky University graduate and Bowling Green native Jean-Marie Lawson Spann officially kicked off her campaign for Agriculture Commissioner Wednesday in Frankfort.

"I'm not running against anyone. I'm running for the office of Commissioner of Agriculture for the Commonwealth of Kentucky."

The Bowling Green Democrat is VP of Marketing for Hartland Equipment and host of the Jean-Marie Ag Show.

Lawson Spann has long been involved in different aspects of Kentucky politics.

Former Ag Commissioner Ed Logsdon told the crowd Wednesday, this won't be an easy journey.

"It is a long, grueling thing that you're getting into, but keep in mind the job that she'll do for the farmers and agribusiness of this state, is worth the work that you'll be doing."

Lawson Spann said she's focused on putting people back to work in the Commonwealth.

"We'll be totally committed and focused like laser on growing jobs and revitalizing our communities both rural and in our cities."

She's the first person in this race, and she hopes she's the first female Agriculture Commissioner in Kentucky.

She's taking this tour all across the Commonwealth and tomorrow she'll be in Bowling Green as well as Glasgow on Friday and Saturday.

Lawson Spann will be at the L.D. Brown Ag Expo Center Thursday at 9 a.m.
