Lee Robertson Statue Unveiled at WKU

"I guess I could have called every name here. You see and you know the special effort and sacrifice some of them made to get here... some of them a long distance, and the way I love people and the way I love Western, it just takes you to your knees.  It's hard for me to talk without choking down, but it was awesome," said 91 year old Lee Robertson, Special Assistant to the WKU Vice President.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Another WKU great was memorialized in bronze today.

91 year old Lee Robertson is the Special Assistant to the WKU Vice President now, but over the past 50 years, he's worn many hats, ranging from student and baseball player to coach and alumni director, but none more familiar to those on the hill than "Mr. Western."

"I guess I could have called every name here. You see and you know the special effort and sacrifice some of them made to get here... some of them a long distance, and the way I love people and the way I love Western, it just takes you to your knees. It's hard for me to talk without choking down, but it was awesome," said Robertson.

Friends, family and coworkers gathered to watch as Robertson was welcomed into the group of only a handful with statues on the campus.

The statue is located just inside the front doors of the new WKU Augenstein Alumni Center, where Robertson says he will always be seen waving to those who enter.
