Lighthearted Side of Fancy Farm: Selfies and Poems

FANCY FARM, Ky. (WBKO) -- This past Saturday's Fancy Farm Picnic had its fair share of well written remarks and funnier parts.

This year it didn't take long for any of this to happen.

Gov. Steve Beshear was the first to speak at the event and he wasted no time taking a jab at Sen. Mitch McConnell using a popular style of taking a picture, the selfie.

"Excuse me just one minute. I'm sorry, I just had to get one last photo of the Senator before Kentucky voters retire him in November," said Beshear.

The Kentucky Democratic Party posted Gov. Beshear's selfie on their twitter account.

McConnell appears to be a good sport about it, smiling in the background as Beshear cheeses up close.

Sen. Rand Paul added a little bit of humor himself in the form of a poem, rhyming and taking shots at President Obama, Sen. Harry Reid and democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Alison Lundergan Grimes.

"To the liberals, she sells her soul, the same ones who hate Kentucky coal. One thing we know is true, one thing we know is guaranteed, she'd cast her first vote for Harry Reid," said Paul.

Organizers say this year's political speeches featured a record crowd.
