A Lindsey Wilson College baseball player is dead, and two others are injured, after a violent wreck last night.
"Very hard worker, Caleb was. Five hours before the accident, I was instructing Caleb to do things a different way to become a better player and five hours later he's no longer with us," Lindsey Wilson College Baseball Coach, Jonathan Burton says.
Caleb Capps was driving two female passengers, Jessica Mikel, 18, and Jessica Burba, 17, last night around 10.
Both girls are from Louisville.
Police say they believe alcohol was involved.
"They were attending a yearly bonfire, which I think is a yearly tradition at Lindsey Wilson with a lot of the kids," Coach Burton says.
"18-year-old, Caleb Capps who was the operator of the vehicle, and ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Adair County coroner. Two other passengers were also injured. One was flown to the University of Kentucky Hospital, the other to University of Louisville Hospital," says Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer, Trooper William Gregory.
Police are saying, Capps was driving a 2004 Chevy Truck.
When the truck came around the curve, it slid off the road.
The truck went through a guardrail down into an embankment, where Capps was ejected from the truck.
The truck came to a a complete stop further down the embankment in a forested area.
Coach Burton says he doesn't know if Capps was intoxicated, or not, but it wouldn't have been his typical behavior if he was.
"He was the type of kid that you always want to be around. Somebody that a lot of the guys really fed off of. We have a lot of new freshman on our team this year, and he's familiar with a lot of those guys. He's just somebody that everyone liked and enjoyed and wanted to be around."
And Coach Burton wants the family to know...
"We hope that Caleb's family knows that we cared a lot about him. We wanted him here and he wanted to be here as well."
Lindsey Wilson College students met in the chapel on campus this afternoon to pay tribute to Caleb Capps.
Jessica Mikel was released this morning from the University of Kentucky Hospital.
Jessica Burba is still in serious condition in the ICU at the University of Louisville Hospital.
