Local Attractions Draw Hundreds

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Summer is winding down, but it is not officially over yet.

Today, in Bowling Green, hundreds of families gathered to spend the last holiday of the summer together.

"We actually ran a special for yesterday and today, so, Sunday and Monday, a half price special, which affects anybody who buys a ticket. So, our normal rate of $31. 99, is cut all the way half price, which is great deal for families," Director of Beech Bend Park Operations, Reed Gonzalez, said.

One family says they looked for something fun to do, but wanted to remain local, so, they chose Beech Bend Park.

"It's a good family atmosphere. It's family oriented, and that's what we like about it, something here to do local," Franklin, KY resident, Brad Perry, said.

KOA Campgrounds owner, Danny Goad, says when he purchased the property in 1999, they had about 60 sites. Since then, it has more than doubled to keep up with the demand.

"We've got 120 sites, then we have 14 lodging units, like cabins or cottages," KOA owner, Danny Goad, said.

This weekend, KOA was fully booked, much like other holiday weekends. Goad also says events in the area help increase their revenue.

"Things like these Corvette events all through the year help. I don't know what this Balloons, Tunes, and BBQ will do this weekend, but we'll have to wait and see," Goad says.

But, KOA is not the only property in town with camping sites available.

"We also have camp ground attached right beside us, so if you're the camping type, you've got the RV, or you just want to throw up a tent, we can have plenty of space for you to come spent you weekend with us at Beech Bend," Gonzalez said.

Both KOA and Beech Bend campgrounds are open year round.
