"I think our position is you cannot put a value on an education. It invaluable. Its absolutely something our kids have to have and so I think it's our responsibility then to be creative in our paths in finding ways to educate," says Goff.

BOWLING GREEN Ky. (WBKO) - Local school districts are acting fast to increase the dropout age. Bowling Green City and Barren County will discuss the change at their next board meeting. Warren County is doing the same with a discussion during next Thursday's session.

A $10,000 state grant is now on the line for schools to take action.

"It would be nice to be one of the first 57 schools. I have no idea how many school districts at this time have already come on board. I assume with us going to look at it next week that it might put us in those 57," says Interim Superintendent Kathy Goff.

Goff says the additional money would be put to good use, including using a strategy to ensure the transition runs smoothly.

"There will be a plan to be developed as we begin working with these students. We will have to start looking at their needs a little bit earlier and also looking at what we are already doing and how we can change that and make those better opportunities for our students," says Goff.

Goff says Warren County has always valued education for every student. The creation of the Lighthouse Academy gives students who have difficulties a chance to learn through online courses and one on one interaction.

"I think our position is you cannot put a value on an education. It invaluable. Its absolutely something our kids have to have and so I think it's our responsibility then to be creative in our paths in finding ways to educate," says Goff.

Warren County says now that the dropout age will be raised to 18 they will have a renewed focus on making sure every student has a stronger start earlier in education.

Kentucky Department of Education says once 55% of schools pass the new dropout age, it will be implemented at all schools with four years.
