Local Doctors Warn Cool Start To Spring Could Mean Bad Allergy Season

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Doctors are warning those suffering from allergies to brace for a rough season over the next few weeks.

A cooler than average start to spring has caused pollination to lack behind past years. Trees are now just starting to get their buds. Local doctors say the delay will cause this allergy season to be troublesome.

"More of the trees will be pollinating. I mean they are ready and just waiting for it to get a little bit warmer. The grasses normally start pollinating here about April, so it's going to hit us all at one time," says Dr. Pat Mercer.

Those who normally don't suffer from allergies could also face problems this season.

Doctors say the easiest way to prevent the sniffles is over-the-counter medication and keeping windows closed whenever possible.
