Mexican restaurants nationwide are celebrating Cinco de Mayo today.
In Mexico, May the 5th is celebrated as a day of freedom.
But in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has become a time to celebrate.
Restaurants like Chuy's offer day-long happy hour specials and decorate for the occasion.
"It's one of our biggest days as a company. It's thought of as our Mexican Thanksgiving so to speak, for us personally. But it's a huge day for us, and that's why we put a lot into it," says Bruce Rosenblatt, Chuy's General Manager.
Cinco de Mayo originated in the American West during the Civil War when the Mexican Army beat the French at the Battle of Puebla.
