June is National Pet Adoption Month and the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society says they're always looking for loving homes for their animals.

The shelter took in a little more than a thousand cats and dogs in May alone.

Right now, they have two hundred animals in-house and ready for adoption.

If you plan on adopting a pet or are currently a pet owner, they also have some tips on keeping pets safe during the summer.

"You definitely don't want to leave your pet unattended in a car, it doesn't take very long for the temperature to rise above an unsafe level, make sure they have plenty of water if they're outside and definitely shelter, check on your pets often when they are outside," says Morgan Moran from the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society.

They say you might also want to look into getting a little pet swimming pool to help them cool off.

The shelter says they typically receive thirty to sixty animals a day.
