One local man got paid to go to the Super Bowl, and he's not a player or coach.

Something Bernie Kahl of Barren County always wanted to do was go to the Super Bowl, and with a job opportunity and family in Indianapolis to stay with, this was his chance.

"This is a dream I always hoped I could do, but never afford, and this way it just happened to fall in my lap, so I just decided, yea let's go for it," said Kahl.

He was selected as one of about 2,500 of 100 thousand applicants to work at the Super Bowl.

He served as an usher in the lower level behind the patriot painted end zone.

So, he took a few days off work and headed to Indy.

"I like football, and if I get a chance to see the biggest game in the world, I was going to try for it. It didn't matter even if they put me out in the parking lot, I would still experience it. I would still feel that I was there, even though I wouldn't have seen the game, but I was fortunate and blessed to see the game and be inside," said Kahl.

His daughter, 14-year-old Ashley Kahl really wanted him to go for it.

"I'm proud of him for doing what his heart was telling him to do, try something new. Many people don't get to go to the super bowl because of the money, and I thought this was a pretty cool story to talk about how my dad got to go super bowl without paying for anything and get to work it," said Ashley Kahl.

Kahl got back just in time to escort his daughter on eighth grade night at James E. Bazzell middle school in Scottsville.

"Yesterday we were happy that my dad got there because it was his time to shine, and tonight's my time to shine. They're walking me out on the court, and are proud of me for basketball, and I just think we're blessed to have this kind of stuff happen to us," said Ashley Kahl.

Kahl isn't sure about the next Super Bowl yet.

"Next year, they're in New Orleans, I don't know anyone in New Orleans. I might have to sleep on Bourbon Street, but yea, I might give it a try," said Kahl.

This isn't the first time Kahl has served as an usher.

He's also ushered at basketball and football games at Indiana University.

Also, in his section were celebrities Ice Cube and Serena Williams.

Kahl's daughter Ashley says hopefully they'll get to work together at Super Bowl L, when she's old enough.
