Louisville Doctor Weighs in On Wine and Breast Cancer

"A glass of wine a day is not going to increase your chances enough to change things," says Dr. Michael Kommor, an oncologist for Baptist Health.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WBKO) -- A glass of wine may be something you look forward to after a long day, but depending on who you're talking to wine may or may not have health benefits. So what's the connection between wine and breast cancer?

Recent studies suggest drinking any amount of wine increases the chance of breast cancer. One study says avoiding alcohol could even cut the risk in half, but a Louisville doctor is looking past the hype and saying moderation is key.

"A glass of wine a day is not going to increase your chances enough to change things," says Dr. Michael Kommor, an oncologist for Baptist Health.

The doctor says women looking to decrease their overall chance of breast cancer should have a healthy diet and regular exercise.
