LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A Louisville woman is convicted of wanton murder in the death of her 2-year-old son, who was left in her car for nearly 12 hours last year while she slept.
Jefferson County Circuit Court jurors found Mollie Shouse guilty Tuesday and were returning to recommend a sentence.
The Courier-Journal reports that Shouse was also convicted of wanton endangerment, criminal abuse and possession of a controlled substance.
Defense lawyer Pattie Echsner told jurors Shouse didn't mean to leave Kenton Brown in the car or cause his death, and that she would punish herself for the rest of her life.
Prosecutor Erin McKenzie said Shouse chose to take drugs and leave the boy in a car, before passing out inside her apartment. McKenzie alleged Shouse mixed marijuana and Xanax, but Shouse denied using marijuana.
