LOUISVILLE, KY. (AP) -- Louisville police say an officer shot and killed a dog that was attacking a mail carrier.
A witness tells WAVE-TV the dog was throwing the mail carrier around during the incident Thursday.
Lt. Rob Davis of the Louisville Metro Police Department says when an officer arrived the female mail carrier was being bitten on both arms by two dogs, one a pit bull mix and the other a rat terrier-beagle mix.
Davis says the 80-pound pit bull mix would not let go and the officer felt he had to shoot the dog to free the mail carrier, who was taken to the hospital.
The dogs' owner, 51-year-old Samuel Just, was charged on an outstanding warrant of writing cold checks, as well as failure to provide shots and license, failure to control dogs and having a dangerous animal.
