MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL PARK, Ky. (AP) -- Park Superintendent Patrick Reed says the information comes from a tool developed by Michigan State University, that allows each national park to determine its economic impact on the areas around it.
WBKO-TV in Bowling Green says the Money Generation Model takes into account the number of visitors, how much was spent at the park, and the ripple effect creating jobs that generate income also spent in the region.
Reed says each dollar of the park's $8 million budget generates approximately $8 in economic impact.
