LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (AP) — A central Kentucky man has died in an apparent drowning at Rough River Lake.

Grayson County Sheriff Rick Clemons told The News-Enterprise that 36-year-old Kyle R. McGonigle died Monday while swimming and fishing with a group of friends. He said preliminary autopsy results show McGonigle drowned, but officials are still investigating factors that may have contributed to the death.

Cassandra Clark, who was among the group McGongle was with, says a dog was with the group and began struggling in the water so McGonigle began swimming toward it to help. She says he shouted "Oh! Oh!" before disappearing under the water's surface in the same spot as the dog.

Divers with the Leitchfield Fire Department later found his body and that of the dog.
