Man Charged with Threatening to Blow Up School

HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) -- A western Kentucky man has been charged with terroristic threatening after police say someone overheard him in a restaurant discussing how he could use explosives at Henderson County High School.

Henderson Police spokeswoman Officer Jenny Richmond says 20-year-old Brenden Mathis of Henderson was arrested Sunday. Richmond told The Gleaner someone overheard Mathis discussing explosives and the school and used an instant communication system to reach school officials.

School officials called Henderson police, who arrested Mathis later in the day at his home.

Richmond says Mathis is a former student at Henderson County High School.

Richmond says school officials notified parents that additional police officers will be present at the high school on Monday, but the facility is safe.

Jail records did not list an attorney for Mathis.
