Man Cleared In 1998 Fatal Dorm Fire In Court Again

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) -- A western Kentucky man who was recently acquitted in a fatal dorm fire at Murray State University that happened over a decade ago will be back in court Friday on related charges.

Jerry Wayne Walker was cleared of arson and manslaughter charges by a jury in Marshall County in July.

WPSD-TV in Paducah reports (http://bit.ly/Ot8KaJ ) Walker's attorney is planning to ask a judge to dismiss six new charges of evidence tampering stemming from the 1998 dorm fire.

Walker's lawyers say too much time has passed and too much evidence has been lost or destroyed since the fire. Walker is now an assistant principal at Paducah Middle School.

The campus fire killed a student, Michael Minger, in his dorm room.
